It’s Not All About You…An Interaction Approach to Job Search

Are you frustrated at going down a long path of interviews and not getting a job offer? Just as frustrating, do you never learn why? Reflecting back on how you interacted during networking encounters and interviews may give you some strong clues. Ask yourself: are you causing tension or creating comfort or, perhaps, have no idea? Are you guarded or do you convey trust? Do you give defensive responses or are you approachable? Do you speak from your perspectives or talk about the needs of others?

Your goal is to create a comfortable and mutually open exchange, not a staged presentation. If you force your agenda on others, if you are stilted, if you give memorized answers, you create tension. But, if you focus on others’ agendas, it creates comfort leading to productive interactions. People endorse those with whom they are comfortable. Hopefully, the endorsement leads to a job offer.

This workshop helps you understand your interaction shortcomings and specific ways to improve. Further, we discuss how to make job search be about others, not about you. Armed with this information, you can modify how you relate to others, how you can improve your written and verbal presentations and how you can effectively sell yourself. This will help you cross the bridge from being in the finalist group to being the one chosen for a job.
